Guest Tips

To fully experience the unique ambiance of Rain Country Resort, we advise taking the guided plantation walk offered by the staff. It’s not just a walk. It is an informative exercise during which the guides are well versed in the local ecosystem and can show you things you would just overlook- right from minuscule orchids to rare birds. This walk significantly adds to your understanding and enhances your appreciation of the beautiful surroundings that one often takes for granted and can usually be done free of cost or at very low prices.

One critical tip is to pack for the environment. The travel shoes should be strong and comfortable first of all, with a good grip rubber sole and extremely comfortable in the plantation trail. During the monsoon period, which typically covers June to September, one raincoat is non-negotiable, leech socks are a very wise investment if you are going to do any serious trekking, and so on. Carry a good insect repellent. You can feel as if you’re in the middle of nowhere because Wi-Fi and mobile signals are weak; therefore, better download your books or music before coming to the resort.

Talk to the kitchen staff about your food. The on-site restaurant serves most tasty food to the visitors, so this should be your first choice. Don’t just go by what is on the menu for a real experience ask the chef which local Keralan dish they are able to prepare for you. They usually love to prepare special requests and can cram you in on some great regional delicacies that you would otherwise not be able to get a taste of.

Use the place as a main strategical base from the southern exploration of the Wayanad district. Feels far away but is quite close to many must-see spots, such as beautiful Pookode Lake with great boating and Lakkidi View Point, just both within short driving distance. Soochipara Falls, and ancient Edakkal Caves may also both be easily reached in day trips, provided your car and driver are pre-arranged with the resort’s help.
